The “Silberling” revives!

The original fischertechnik electronics modules, affectionately called “Silberingen,” date back to the first half of the 1970s but are still very much in demand to recreate the models from the popular “Hobby” book series. The originals have now become scarce collectibles (with the asking prices associated here), but over time many people have successfully recreated them themselves.

In my own “reproductions” of these modules, I wanted to stay as close to the original as possible. For example, I also wanted to be able to connect the power supply of the modules in the same way as with the original ‘Silberlingen’. Metal clips are pushed between the modules for this purpose. By now, many modules had been built and the question was asked more and more regularly whether these functional replicas were not for sale somewhere.

Rebuild Silberlingen Collection

I held off on this question for quite some time because I simply do not have the ‘service apparatus’ for the aftercare and repair of such electronics, but also because the construction of the modules is relatively labor-intensive so that they cannot really be produced ‘cost-effectively’.

In the meantime, I have been building the modules for several years which has allowed me to optimize their construction more and more. As a result, the point has now been reached where they can be offered built and tested for a reasonable price. But still the production will have to be limited to small numbers, because each module is built by hand on request.

So the modules offered here are newly built by hand. In all cases, the original fischertechnik circuit diagram of the respective module was the starting point. Therefore, these replicas are fully electronically compatible with the original fischertechnik modules.

The original rectifier module, and the relay modules from fischertechnik are not replicated by me. For these I have come up with more modern (in my eyes more modern) solutions, which, however, are fully compatible with the classic ‘Silberlingen’ in terms of form-factor. Thus, I built various models of power supply modules, driver and H-bridge modules in ‘Silberling’ enclosures.

These recreated ‘Silberlingen’ are now used by myself with great pleasure and success in many projects. They also make it possible to recreate the various interesting experiments from the original ‘Hobby’ books. For seriously interested fischertechnik builders, these completely built and tested ‘remakes’ are now included in the online catalog on this website.

For those who have some tinkering skills and can solder a little, even more affordable kits are also included in the catalog. These are complete kits for building your own replica of the corresponding classic fischertechnik electronics module. Such a kit contains, in addition to all parts (such as the metal strips to mount on the sides of the housing), the 3D printed housing and cover with die-cut front plate. Also included are all the necessary components and a circuit board. Building instructions are included on this website in the manuals section.
